I have the reputation for having lots of patience and openess in answering questions.
In order to save me precious time, please avoid the next ones:

1. HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR PRIVATE LESSONS?
I Love to teach privately and I hate to talk prices over the Internet. If you want some private lessons please come and try my free class at a library and bring $200 cash. If you like my teaching style and you are still interested,then we can talk. That amount will make a partial payment on five classes.

2. HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTEND YOUR CLASSES?
I varies. The highest 48, the lowest 5. Don't worry,just come. It's free!

3. DO YOU TEACH TO GROUPS OUTSIDE OF THE LIBRARIES?
Yes. Read answer #1 and get the idea.

4. DO YOU THINK I FILL FIT? HAVE RHYTHM? TOO OLD? TOO YOUNG? TOO WHITE? TOO BLACK? TOO HISPANIC?
Please don't ask them before even try.

5. WHERE ARE THE LIBRARIES LOCATED?
Look at a map.

6. DO YOU TEACH ON 1 OR ON 2, CUBAN, MIAMI, LA, NY, ETC, STYLES?
Let's not waste time. I teach salsa dancing, Period.

It's easy: $200 every month can get me teaching salsa dancing for beginners in a public library where low income income residentes live . I could offer my classes there free of charge. How I transformed a complete beginner into a salsa star on you tube

Acorde hacer un video con You Tube. Invite a una estudiante que frecuentemente tomaba mis clases y que tenia el potencial de convertirse en una gran bailadora, ella acepto acompanarme en el proyecto.
Desafortunadamente un dia antes de que empezaramos la filmacion recibi un mensaje de ella comunicandome que por motivos ajenos ya no podia participar.
Hice la primera parte del video solo, donde introduje los pasos basicos. Al siguente dia tenia que filmar con una pareja, asi que llame a varias de mis amigas companeras de baile y por supuesto ninguna de ellas estuvo disponible de momento.
Frustrado llegue a la biblioteca y hable con Sulema [la directora de la biblioteca] hacerca de mi problema. Ella me dijo que buscara entre las personas presentes en la sala y ver la posibilidad de encontrar a alguna candidata.
Me sente en la sala de lectura y note a una joven que estaba ahi tranquilamente leyendo. Inmediatamente fui a hablar con Sulema y le pregunte si esta damita se interesaria en el proyecto. Ella dijo "no se, pero dejame hablar con ella".
Se acerco a ella, me presento, le hablo del video proyecto. Pero Britney nos contesto "Yo no se bailar salsa" a lo cual yo respondi " tu eres la persona perfecta para esto, sera una autentica clase de salsa para principiantes"
Le di la informacion y Britney acepto. Llegue al lugar de la filmacion una hora antes. Estaba preocupado de que quizas ella no se presentara. Para mi alivio Britney llego cinco minutos despues de la hora.
Mi siguiente reto fue convertir a una inexperta a que aprendiera a bailar los pasos basicos de la salsa, en el mismo momento en el que ibamos filmando. Pense , "aqui es donde tengo que demostrarme que tan buen instructor soy". Ademas Britney no habla espanol, asi que tuve que instruirla en ingles y luego conversar en espanol con ella durante la filmacion. Britney solo tenia que decir "si". En solo dos horas hicimos los videos que estan en You Tube. Una vez mas comprobe que soy bueno ensenando. Tengo la esperanza de terminar la filmacion, poniendo todas las partes juntas y al final combinar todos los pasos basicos al ritmo de la salsa.

I agreed to do a video for you-tube. I invited a student who was coming often to the classes and had a potential to become a great dancer and she said she would be glad to help me on the video.
Unfortunately one day before we started to shoot I got an email from her that said she was unable to participate.
I did the first part of the video by myself where I introduced the basic steps. The following day I needed to video with a dance partner so I called several of my friends but none of them were available to help me.
I came to the library all frustrated, talked with Sulema (the library's manager). She told me to look around and see if anyone in the library might be a prospect for a partner. I sat down in the reading area of the library and noticed a young lady sitting in one of the chairs quietly reading. I went over to talk to Sulema and asked if she thought this young lady would be interested in filming the video with me. She said I don't know so but, let me talk with her.
She approached her and introduced me and told her about the video project. Her response was "I don't know how to salsa" I said; you are the perfect person for this; it will be an autentic salsa class for beginners. I gave her all the information and she agreed to go ahead and do it.
I got to Copa an hour early, I was worried she might have second thoughts and not show up. To my relief she got there five minutes after the hour.
Now, my big challenge was to make a complete beginner learn on the spot and on an on going process, as we were shooting the video I thought, “here is where I have to prove how good I am at teaching”. Besides that, she doesn't speak Spanish so I had to train her in English and then talk to her in Spanish during shooting. All she had to say was , " si ".
In only two hours Brittney and I did all the clips that are on you tube . One more time I proved to myself : I am good at teaching. I hope to do the last part of the video sometime in the near future where we would be putting it all together and dancing with music.

Great Beginner Salsa Classes at the Public Library ( Austin , Tx )

I found out about the free salsa lessons at the Cepeda Public Library from a friend. Its my best find for the summer! The lessons are for almost two hours -- on Saturday (2pm - 4pm) and Thursdays (7pm - 8:45pm). The instruction is great. Raul (the instructor) pays personal attention to each student in the class. He also lets each student develop their dancing skills at their own pace. Its unlike other classes - where the class is only for 1 hour and there is pressure to keep up with the other students in the class..no pressure here. The best thing about it is that its free and in a congenial environment. A CUTE DANCER

Raul Ramirez hails from Veracruz Mexico was born on September 7, 1957 but has been in the United States for over 18 yrs.

Growing up in Mexico in a family that loved to dance, Raul learned early on to dance at family gatherings and celebrations.

Shortly after arriving in the U.S. Austin Raul realized the need to learn English and enrolled in a English class. The teacher encouraged Raul to meet other people so that he could practice his English skills.

Since dance was second nature to him he visited various clubs in the area so he could meet and talk to people. Raul then took Salsa dance lessons (UT informal Classes) to meet English speaking people and practice with them. The instructor noticed he had a natural smooth way of dancing , and invited him to do demonstrations on the subsequent classes.

Raul also took drawing classes, his other love or passion. Thanks to the help of the Art from the Streets Project Raul is able to pursue a career as an artist.

Raul was one of the featured artists during the Art Projects exhibition last fall. Cepeda Branch also did an exhibition of his work during the week of Cinco de Mayo and hosted a reception in his honor. Currently Raul has some art work on display at Cepeda Branch.

Raul is the artist in residence at Cepeda where he has done a lot of his work. http://www.artsmall.blogspot.com/ It was quite by accident that the manger at Cepeda discovered his talent for dancing. Looking to hold SALSA dance classes in the fall of 2007 she was told of Raul’s talent and proceeded to solicit his aid as an instructor.

Raul has been holding dance classes since then and continues to do so now, teaching two classes. Sats. 2-4pm and Thurs. evenings 7-845. He hopes will soon start to teach at Spicewood library.
